Amazonite is a blue-green variety of potassium feldspar (microcline), colored by trace amounts of lead and water. Despite the name, it was not originally found in the Amazon river basin — ancient Egyptians mined it in the Eastern Desert. The stone adorned King Tutankhamun's gold death mask and jewelry.
