How to breathe with the moon
Let your eyes rest softly on the moon and follow it. As it grows, breathe in slowly through your nose. As it holds full, pause for a moment. As it shrinks, let a long breath out through your mouth. That is one round, about twelve seconds, roughly five slow breaths a minute. There is nothing to press and nothing to get right, just follow the moon and let each breath be a little slower than the last.
The moon above shows tonight's real phase, so the shape you breathe with changes a little every day. When you have a minute, come back and breathe with it again. For a longer practice, try the full moon meditation, or see tonight's moon in detail.
Questions people ask
Is this a real breathing technique?
It is a gentle slow-breathing exercise: a long inhale, a short hold and a longer exhale. Slow breathing like this is widely used to calm the body and settle the mind. It is for relaxation, not medical treatment.
Do I need sound or headphones?
No. Moon breathing is completely silent, just the moon gently growing and shrinking to pace your breath. It works anywhere, even in a quiet room.
Why does the moon look different each day?
It shows the real moon phase for today, so the shape changes through the month, from a thin crescent to a full moon and back.
