Birthstone vs Zodiac Stone — What's the Difference?
Your birthstone is determined purely by the month you were born. January = Garnet. July = Ruby. December = Turquoise. This system was standardised in 1912 by the American National Association of Jewelers and has nothing to do with astrology.
Your zodiac crystal is determined by your astrological sign — which depends on both the month and the exact day. Zodiac signs change around the 20th–22nd of each month. Someone born on March 15 is Pisces; someone born on March 25 is Aries. Two people born in the same month can have completely different zodiac stones.
This is why entering your exact date matters — and why the two stones are often different.
Which Stone Should I Use?
Both are yours — they simply reflect different aspects of your energy. Your birthstone connects you to the tradition of your birth month, carried through centuries of gemstone lore. Your zodiac crystal resonates with the astrological energy you were born into.
Many people wear their birthstone as jewellery and keep their zodiac crystal for meditation or intention setting. Others feel a stronger pull to one over the other — trust that instinct.
